Too old for daycare – too young to be unsupervised – but just the right age to be part of a Homework Club.
From 3:30 to 5:30 we are together to knock out the homework. Then the rest of the evening can be open for family time and for other activities.
Here’s the routine:
- Arrive and pull out your assignment book, homework sheets, and textbooks so Marji can find out what the homework load looks like.
- Enjoy a substantial snack while Marji looks over all the assignment books. (Be sure to put snack suggestions in the “snack suggestion” box.) Enjoy your food, practice your conversation skills, clean up your place, and be ready to start homework by 3:55.
- Work on the math assignment first. Then do the other assignments from hardest to easiest. Teachers will check your assignments as you go so that the answers are CORRECT and all work is NEAT AND COMPLETE.
- If homework is done early, then relax . . . or work on your science project . . . or join in an activity with another student . . .
- Teacher will type up an online report for parents, who need to know if homework is not finished or if there is a test coming up – or whatever. (If parents prefer, the report can be on paper.)
Each student must pay in advance to reserve a place for the following month. Be aware that “month” really means the next 16-session block of days. We meet Monday – Thursday when the public schools are in session.
Payment for missed days is not refundable. If we had to recalculate for every possible absence for every student the rate would have to be much higher – just to keep track of attendance and homework assignments. If a family anticipates many absences, our Homework Club is probably not a workable option.
Fee for each “month” is $240/student.
